LYON COLLEGE APPLE PROGRAM

COMMUNITY DOCUMENTARY WORKSHOP~

T Tauri has enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with the Lyon College college preparedness Upward Bound program, known as APPLE (Accelerated Program of Personalized Learning and Enrichment). Each year, students in the APPLE Writing About Film class act as the judges for our national young filmmakers competition. They score and comment on a large number of entries and take the work they view and the process very seriously.

In the fall of 2007, T Tauri and Lyon College teamed up to create a year-long Community Documentary workshop experience for APPLE students. The film produced in our first effort at an extended timeframe learning scenario was called SOUTHERN FRIED SATURDAYS, a highly personal and poignant reverie about the ways teens pass their time in a rural community.

The second APPLE documentary, HUMANITY UNLEASHED, was produced in the 2008/09 school year. The film is a profile of one of Batesville's best loved non-profit organizations, the Independence County Humane Society. The Society and its tireless leader Bev Finch, maintain a no-kill policy while providing a safe and loving environment for abandoned animals in ever-increasing numbers. The APPLE fillmmakers were moved and inspired by the organization, producing an advocacy film designed to move viewers to action.
