OPERATION MILITARY KIDS~

Operation Military Kids is the U.S. Army's collaborative effort with America's communities to support the children and youth impacted by deployment. Since its inception in 2005, OMK has touched 88,000 military youth. Through a network of community partners, OMK provides youth program opportunities for school age, middle school and teenaged youth and connects them to support resources where they live.

As part of a national partnership between 4-H and the Department of Defense, the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service provides a number of OMK opportunities for military kids. Ozark Foothills FilmFest was thrilled to participate in the first-ever OMK summer camp in August 2009. In the resulting "T Tauri on the Road" workshop at the C.A. Vines 4-H Center, seven students shared their feelings about having parents in the military in an engaging and informative documentary film, which they wrote, shot, appeared in, and helped to edit.
