Galaxy Teen Net Advisors
JOB DESCRIPTION~
T Tauri is seeking part-time Teen Net Advisors to manage the T
Tauri Galaxy, an updated, interactive version of
www.ttauri.org
that is currently under construction. The T Tauri Galaxy will be
an online filmmaking community for young people that will provide
filmmaking tutorials; a screening room for finished movies by
young stars; an in-progress screening room for posting
works-in-progress; a mechanism for users to comment on
works-in-progress and conduct ongoing conversations about digital
movies and movie-making; links to web filmmaking tools and
utilities; announcements about youth internet and live film
festivals, competitions, and other events; and other stuff
suggested by the Net Advisors and site users.
Teen Net Advisors will be responsible for the "care and
feeding" of the Galaxy. They will research and identify online
resources to feature; upload films from T Tauri alumni and youth
media organizations for viewing; write movie reviews; test and
write short reviews of online filmmaking tools; start online
conversations and help keep them flowing and focused; and offer
ongoing design and content suggestions for the site based on their
conversations with users.
Applicants should have some or all of the following:
a passion for and facility with the internet
interest in movies, both fiction and documentary
experience with social networking websites, such as MySpace,
YouTube, Jumpcut
access to a computer and an internet connection
keyboarding skills and the ability to use Microsoft Word
experience working with video clips, including uploading to
the internet
the ability to fully engage in online tutorials (following
directions, not "clicking around" until it comes out right)
the ability to conduct online conversations with site users
the ability to collaborate and solve problems with other Net
Advisors
enthusiasm about the activities of the T Tauri Film Festival
and the ability and willingness to communicate it to others
lots of ideas about ways the internet could help you as a
filmmaker
Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 18 (at the time
of application). Preference will be given to applicants who live
in Arkansas or have participated in one or more T Tauri Movie Camp
workshops.
HOURS AND COMPENSATION~
A total of three Advisors will be hired. Advisors will be paid
$7.50 per hour. Advisors will work a total of 133 hours over an
eight month period beginning in February 2008, earning a total of
$1,000.00 (well, it’s actually $997.50). Advisors should be
somewhat flexible about how many hours they work each week but
must be able to devote a minimum of 5 hours in any week if
assigned a particular task. Advisors will create a monthly work
plan outlining the tasks they will accomplish for the upcoming
month, selecting from a list of activities in progress and/or
tasks they think of themselves. Monthly work plans must be
approved by the executive director. Advisors will keep a log of
their activities and provide a monthly work report that lists the
tasks that were completed in the preceding month. Advisors will
keep a record of hours worked that must be confirmed by signature
of a parent or guardian. Advisors must have a parent’s or
guardian’s written permission to be employed in this program.
